NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — With less than 24 hours until polls open, election officials are getting ready for Tuesday's vote, finalizing last-minute preparations. "We're in the process of having the machines delivered to the polling locations with all the proper equipment to make sure that the keys are in the right hands, and those folks are at the venues. All the locations will be prepared for the commissioners in the morning," said Orleans Parish Elections Commissioner Darren Lombard. Voting starts at 6 a.m. and ends at 8 pm. Louisiana law requires in-person voters to bring proof of identification. "If for some reason you don't have an ID, if you lose it or you leave at home or whatever the case may be, you can ask the, the commissioners for what they call the voter identification affidavit," said Lombard. It's an alternative voting method when you can't confirm your eligibility or be verified at a polling site. If you happen to show up at the wrong location, you can also vote provisionally. In recent years voter fraud has been a highly contested topic, but Lombard is reassuring Louisianians that there's no reason for concern. "We never have a problem. As far as the national scene goes, we have always ranked consistently in the top 10 as far as having the cleanest elections in the country. So, we don't have those issues," said Lombard. Nearly 77 million Americans have already cast their ballot.
