Nov 04, 2024
HARDEMAN COUNTY, Tenn. -- After a suspect was killed after exchanging gunfire with state troopers, WREG has learned that his crime spree began earlier in the day after two women were shot in a Hardeman County home.
There were terrifying moments for residents in Hardeman County's Medon area as they saw a swarm of law enforcement in their neighborhood.
"It was kind of scary," neighbor Darline Jared said. "It scared my baby to death back there."
Jared said she first thought it was hunters when she heard shots being fired on Jared Lane but said this time it felt different.
"I just thought there was some hunters out, you know? Because we do have a lot of hunters around here," Jared said. "But decided not to investigate this time because I had my little one with me."

Dispatch audio pinpoints when Tennessee Highway Patrol got a shots fired call just after 1:20 p.m. this afternoon.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says two women were shot at a residence on Jared Lane before a man took an infant and led state troopers on a chase 10 minutes after they say they tried to pull him over.
At some point during the chase on Highway 18, troopers say the driver shot at them.
WREG managed to speak with a woman on the way to the scene. She told us what she saw happen between the troopers and the suspect.
"I heard what I thought were two gunshots," Teresa Krofta said. "My son said there were about four, so I am not 100 percent sure. But he rolled the windows down and we could smell gunsmoke in the air."
Not soon after shots were exchanged, troopers say the driver crashed just south of Highway 100.
In the dispatch audio, you can hear a trooper say there was an exchange of more gunfire.

"Subject has a head injury," the trooper said. "We're uncertain at the time if it's (a) self-inflicted wound or if it is from the crash. Handgun in his right hand at the moment."
In a statement from the TBI, they say they are solely "fact-finders in its cases and does not determine whether the actions of an officer were justified in these types of matters."
The condition of the infant in the suspect's vehicle has not been released but viewers have sent in photos of a trooper carrying a baby.
According to the TBI, one of the women shot was flown to Regional One while the other was taken to a hospital in nearby Jackson.
Neighbors say they hope both are okay.
"It just breaks my heart because (unnamed victim) is a very sweet and loving person and she has developed Alzheimer's and she probably thought she was just helping people," Jared said.
