Hilton Hawaiian workers ratify new contract, strike comes to an end after 40 days

WAIKIKI, Hawaii (KHON2) -- Hotel workers from Hilton Hawaiian Village ratified their new contract on Monday, Nov. 4, putting an end to a 40-day strike.

On Saturday, Nov. 2, UNITE HERE Local 5 announced the union and Hilton Hawaiian reached a tentative contract deal for more than 1,800 workers.
Hundreds of Maui healthcare workers set to strike Monday morning
The strike initially began in late September with housekeepers, front desk agents, restaurant workers and more walking off the job at 5 a.m.
Union workers were fighting for proper staffing and wage increases to keep up with Hawaii's cost of living.
Workers at the Hilton Hawaiian Village have led all of us to an important and historic victory that puts hospitality workers and this community one step closer to making ‘one job enough’ a reality.

According to the union, the fight is far from over as they have yet to achieve settlements with Hyatt, Kyo-ya and Marriott for more than 3,200 other hotel workers.
"Advocating for better conditions and pay together is central to Hawai‘i’s history. With this agreement, both sides showed a dedication to raising the quality of life for Hawaiʻi’s working families," said Mufi Hannemann, HTA Board Chair.
Hilton Hawaiian Village workers are expected to return on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 4 a.m.
