BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- Starpoint Central School District Superintendent Sean Croft will return to work and resume his responsibilities as superintendent on Nov. 14, the school's board of education announced Monday. Croft was put on leave after he was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated. Officials said he struck a tree on Nina Terrace near the intersection of East and West Roads on Aug. 31 in West Seneca. He allegedly showed several signs of intoxication and was said to have failed field sobriety tests, according to police. He pleaded not guilty to the DWI charge in September. Witnesses said Croft claimed the accident happened due to him swerving to avoid hitting a squirrel. After the board's unanimous decision on Monday, Croft will return with their full support, said board president Jeffrey Duncan in a letter to parents and guardians. "The Board came to this decision following careful consideration and reflection, balancing the seriousness of the incident with Dr. Croft's longstanding dedication and positive contributions to this school community," Duncan said in the letter. "It is apparent through our conversations with Dr. Croft that he has taken responsibility for his action and has demonstrated a commitment to personal growth." Croft signed a revised contract that was approved by the board to "ensure responsibility," according to the letter.
