A driver struck a 1-year-old child in Valley Center and then drove off Monday morning and deputies located a vehicle believed to be involved a short time later, a sheriff’s official said.
The incident was reported shortly before 8:30 a.m. on Morningstar Road, which is on the Rincon reservation.
Details of what led up to the collision were not immediately available. The child was transported to a hospital to be treated. It was not immediately known if the child was male or female, and the extent of injuries was not released.
A vehicle believed to have been involved in the collision was located on state Route 76 near Pauma Valley Drive, about 10 miles away. Investigators were trying to determine if the driver found with the car was involved in the earlier hit-and-run, said sheriff’s Lt. David Chandroo.
The investigation was to be conducted by the California Highway Patrol.
