WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- Starting on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 5, several detours and delays will be in place for Metrobus routes and Metrorail lines. Metrobus Some Metrobus routes will be detoured due to road closures in place for Vice President Kamala Harris's election night event at Howard University. The 70, 79 and G2 bus routes will detour or encounter delays starting at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.  70 Georgia Avenue-7th Street northbound towards Silver Spring: Buses begin detouring on 7th St NW at Rhode Island Ave., resuming regular route on Georgia Ave. NW at Quebec Pl. 70 Georgia Avenue-7th Street southbound towards Archives: Buses begin detouring on Georgia Ave. NW at New Hampshire Ave., resuming regular route on 7th St. NW at Q St. 79 Georgia Avenue MetroExtra northbound towards Silver Spring: Buses begin detouring on 7th St. NW at Rhode Island Ave., resuming regular route on Georgia Ave. NW at New Hampshire Ave. 79 Georgia Avenue MetroExtra southbound towards Archives: Buses begin detouring on Georgia Ave. NW at New Hampshire Ave., resuming regular route on 7th St. NW at M St. G2 P Street - Ledroit Park: Buses will operate between Georgetown University and a bus stop located on R St. NW & 7th St. Disruptions felt near Howard University ahead of Kamala Harris election night event Signage will be posted at all bus stops within the security perimeter to alert commuters of detours and nearby alternatives. WMATA noted that it would monitor historically busy areas, like McPherson Square and Lafayette Square for potential detours. People on these routes and in surrounding areas should account for additional travel time. Metrorail Metrorail will be running with its normal weekday service and hours. Those who are attending the event at Howard University can take the Green Line to the Shaw-Howard U station. Additional trains will operate on the Green Line throughout the day. Shaw-Howard U will have the last trains headed toward Branch Ave. at 11:47 p.m. and Greenbelt at 12:21 a.m. Commuters who need to transfer are advised to catch the 11:47 p.m. toward Branch Ave. to get to any other station on the line before the Metrorail system closes for the night. Metro rolls out Veterans Day design for buses, train WMATA noted that those who are staying in the area later into the night can use its 24-hour bus service in the District, which has 14 routes running every 20 minutes. MetroAccess MetroAccess customers were advised that door-to-door service will not be available within the security perimeter near Howard University. Delays will also be possible due to the area's road closures. "Efforts will be made to provide drop-off service as close as possible if traveling to/from a location in the restricted area. MetroAccess will operate normal service outside of the area around Howard University’s campus and is notifying customers of the potential impacts," WMATA noted.
