Brockport's Landon Scott is our Player of the Week
Nov 04, 2024
BROCKPORT, N.Y. (WROC) — When you account for six total touchdowns and author the biggest Section V football upset in recent memory, you become an easy choice for our Player of the Week.
Brockport Senior quarterback Landon Scott did just that as the Blue Devils knocked off East/WOIS, the defending Class A sectional champions, 45-42 in double overtime.
Scott was stellar from start to finish. He threw an 80-yard touchdown pass on the very first play of the game. He ran in Brockport's touchdown in the first overtime and set up Isaiah Markel's game-winning 29-yard field goal in double overtime.
Scott completed 15 of 20 attempts for 301 yards and a pair of touchdowns. On the ground, he had 15 carries for 72 yards and four touchdowns.
The Blue Devils clinched a playoff spot on the very last week of the season with a 5-3 record. In their only three games against teams with winning records this year, they were outscored 135-30. That included a game in Week 6 where East beat them 48-21.
The Eagles entered as the defending Class A champions, a reigning state semifinalist who hadn’t lost to a Section V opponent since November of 2022.
But none of that mattered on Friday night as Scott powered his team to the upset.
Brockport will play Canandaigua in the sectional semifinals on Friday. While the Gray Wolves defeated Brockport 41-7 in Week 7 of the regular season, with the way our Player of the Week and the entire Blue Devils are playing, don't count out Brockport just yet.
