DOJ: Man pleads guilty in drug trafficking from Mexico to Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A man has pleaded guilty after attempting to distribute dozens of pounds of methamphetamine and heroin from Mexico, which were delivered to another person in Fresno, the United States Department of Justice said on Monday.
The DOJ says a Guatemalan citizen residing in El Monte, 28-year-old Donis Ariel Maldonado, pleaded guilty Monday to conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute heroin and methamphetamine.
According to court documents, Maldonado agreed with other members of the conspiracy to distribute 22 pounds of heroin and over 80 pounds of methamphetamine sourced from Mexico. The DOJ says on June 24, 2019, Maldonado delivered the drugs to an informant in Fresno.
Maldonado is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 18, 2025. The DOJ says if sentenced, he faces a maximum statutory penalty of 20 years in prison and a $2 million fine.
