SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The City of Springfield held its 35th annual Puerto Rican flag raising on Monday.
Local leaders including Mayor Domenic Sarno, Mayor Garcia of Holyoke State Rep. Carlos González, and State Sen. Adam Gomez were among those in attendance.
"The Puerto Rican community in Springfield was established in the 1940s and we wish to recognize the positive impact that the Puerto Rican community has had on social, cultural, and economic development," says Mayor Sarno of Springfield.
This November marks Puerto Rican Heritage Month.
Community advocates are calling out Former President Trump following remarks a comedian made about the island at a trump Rally in New York City last month.
A senior Trump Advisor said, "This joke does not reflect the views of the former president or the campaign".
During Puerto Rican Heritage Month you can support local businesses. Some of those are:
El Chinchorro Boriqua in Holyoke
