The Federal Election Commission is demanding that U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz's reelection campaign explain or return nearly $1 million in campaign contributions that appear to violate federal law.  U.S. law bars individuals from giving more than $3,300 to a candidate's election committee, and the Nov. 3 FEC letter raises concerns that nearly 200 third-quarter contributors to the Texas Republican's campaign exceeded that limit — some by thousands of dollars. The letter includes a 97-page list of donations to Ted Cruz for Senate that blow past that ceiling.
