RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- With polls set to open in Virginia at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Richmond Registrar Keith Balmer is reminding voters to bring a photo ID like a driver’s license or passport to the polls along with some patience.
If you get to the polls and don’t have your ID, don’t panic -- Balmer says you can sign a form affirming your identity to get a ballot.
“It is a statement in which you are affirming that you are the person that you are claiming to be, and then at that point you can cast your ballot,” Balmer told 8News.
Balmer adds that, if you get to your polling location and aren’t registered to vote, you can register on-site and will be given a provisional ballot to vote on.
“The electoral board will actually make a determination if that ballot can count, but only after my staff has researched that voter’s eligibility,” said Balmer.
As for what you can wear to the polls, Balmer said you can wear whatever you like.
“Here in Virginia, you are allowed, as a voter, to show up wearing your shirt that supports whoever, your hat that supports whoever,” Balmer said.
Polls will be open in Virginia from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m., anyone in line when the polls close will still be allowed to vote.
