RIDOH advises Richmond and Hopkinton residents to boil water starting Thursday
Nov 04, 2024
RICHMOND, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of health advises customers of the Town of Richmond Public Water System and the Town of Hopkinton Public Water System to boil their water before consuming starting Nov. 7 as a precaution.
From Nov. 7 to Nov. 12, the water storage tank used for Richmond and Hopkinton is being repaired, which could potentially result in bacteria getting into the water supply.
Boiling the water can kill bacteria and organisms in the water.
Between Nov. 7 and Nov 12., RIDOH advises:
All water used for drinking, preparing food, ice, brushing teeth, or infant formula should be boiled vigorously for at least one minute.
Wash dishes in a dishwasher and use the sanitizer cycle, or wash dishes in warm, soapy water and rinse the dishes with pre-boiled or bottled water.
Infants and young children should not be bathed in this water because they may accidently swallow it.
RIDOH says there is currently no confirmed bacterial contamination within the water systems.
Once the repairs are complete, the water will be tested at least twice, 24 hours apart.
RIDOH said it will review and approve water samples before the advisory is lifted to assure no bacteria entered the water system.
