NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) — A couple of playful dolphins were swimming around a boat in Newport on Sunday evening. The pair got up close, swimming right under the boat which was floating just south of the Pell Bridge. Boaters reported seeing dozens of dolphins in that area of the bay. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, any boaters who come across dolphins should keep 50 yards away if possible. Boaters should never chase, encircle or speed toward any marine mammal. If an animal is nearby, boaters should treat the area as a no-wake zone.
