GREENWOOD, Ind. -- A Greenwood man was sentenced late last month after police found thousands of child porn videos and images on devices that belonged to him.
According to a news release from the Johnson County Prosecutor's Office, 39-year-old Aaron Cooper was sentenced to one year in the Indiana Department of Correction and three years of active probation on Oct. 31.
This comes after Cooper pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography, a Level 5 felony. As part of his sentence, Cooper will be required to register as a sex offender for life.

The release said that Cooper's family member found images of child pornography on a device in the home which was later turned over to law enforcement. An ensuing investigation found that thousands of nude images and videos of children were found on devices and storage cards.
Officials said that Cooper cooperated with the investigation and "admitted that he had a problem."
“Possession of child pornography is a despicable crime,” Johnson County Prosecutor Lance Hamner said in the release. “We are pleased that the judge sent this man to jail.
“Children who are used in pornography are victims of horrific sexual abuse and making pictures and videos of the abuse compounds the damage exponentially," Hamner continued. "Moreover, we know from research in this area that most child molesters start out viewing child pornography and then move on to physically hurting children. Even first offenders who merely possess child pornography, as in this case, should still get jail time. Everyone knows it’s wrong. There is no excuse.”
