OSHKOSH, Wis. (WFRV) - Officials with the Oshkosh Area Humane Society (OAHS) say the shelter is currently full and are asking the public to help by adopting a cat, pair of kittens, dog, puppy, or small animal this fall.
According to a release, as of November 1, there are 236 cats and kittens currently in OAHS care including 66 available for adoption, 111 in foster care homes, and 59 more on-site waiting for spay/neuter, redemption, or space on the adoption floor.
OAHS officials also say they are caring for 34 dogs and puppies as well as another 20 small animals including rabbits and guinea pigs.

Those who are unable to adopt a new pet or two at this time are asked to help out with the situation by sharing posts from the OAHS on all social media platforms.
Officials add that there is no time limit on how long an animal can stay at OAHS meaning that they can not add any more animals into the shelter until ones already in care are adopted.
Due to many different hardships occurring throughout the country, shelters have begun to be overrun with an increase of 177,000 from 2022 to 2023 and an additional 250,000 pets reported to be in the U.S. shelter system at the start of 2024.
Those interested in helping out by adopting a new pet or two for themselves or their family can see what pets are available on the OAHS website.
