The North Carolina Forest Service has finished their aerial forestland damage assessment following hurricane Helene. They found an estimated 822,000 acres of timberland were damaged during the storm. This resulted in an estimated $214,000,000 of timber damage to North Carolina forests. The Forest Service says, this may be the most damaging wind event in western North Carolina since hurricane Hugo in 1989.
