MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCBD)—A local nonprofit organization that provides resources to underserved communities has received a $125,00 grant to build a new resource center.
The grant is from Lowe’s Hometowns to Jean’s Angels. On Lowe's Red Vest Day, which is Wednesday, a groundbreaking will be held at 11 a.m. for the 4,000 square feet center at 956 S. Live Oak Drive. Community members are invited to attend.
Jean’s Angels offers services such as a laundry/shower trailer, financial literacy education, job training, and food assistance to the unhoused and underserved tri-county community.
“Our mission focuses on empowering individuals and families to improve their economic situation and quality of life,” said Katrina Carpenter, nonprofit founder. “Notable accomplishments include making a significant impact through diverse programs and touching thousands of lives in the Lowcountry.”
Once completed, the new resource facility will operate four days a week and offer support to senior citizens, underserved families, and the unhoused.
Carpenter said Jean’s Angels served 28,600 people, including 5,200 children, in 2023.
Olive Garden will provide a lunch after the groundbreaking ceremony. To learn more about Jean's Angels, visit jeansangels.org.
