BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Election day is finally in sight, and there are a few things people need to know if they plan to go vote on Tuesday. Here's what you need to understand about what happens when the polls close. On Election Day, the polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. If someone is still in line at 8 p.m., they will be able to cast their ballot. Louisiana saw over 960,000 people cast their ballots early. The Secretary of State’s office is expecting a lot of people to vote on Election Day, so prepare for potential lines. “We're still anticipating 1-1.2 million voters will turn out on Election Day. We're expecting an overall turnout of around 68 to 71% and that's very similar to the 2020 presidential election,” Secretary Nancy Landry said. Voters must bring some form of ID. LAWallet will be accepted. Also, people cannot wear clothing that has a candidate’s name or slogan on it – it violates state electioneering laws to have it within 600 feet of a polling site. They will be asked to turn it inside out or leave to change. “So tensions are always high and we have that zone around every precinct where people are allowed to just contemplate how they're going to vote,” Landry said. “They've already made up their mind. They've already turned out to vote. So there's no reason to be, you know, trying to influence anybody.” Louisiana students find new ways to prove Pythagorean Theorem, work published in math journal They expect results to start rolling in around midnight or a little before as they usually do. They ask people to be patient as the ballots are counted. Landry said there have been some minor situations with election commissioners dealing with threats or non-complying voters.
