1 dead after crash involving semitruck on Hwy 46: CHP

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- One male from Irvine is dead and a semitruck driver from Fresno is arrested on suspicion of DUI after a two vehicle crash on Highway 46 Friday morning, according to the highway patrol.
Officials with the California Highway Patrol of Buttonwillow say officers were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 46 east of Kecks Road around 11:15 a.m. Friday.
Investigation showed Cesar Luis Lopez Jr., 29, of Fresno was driving a semitruck on a private dirt road and was approaching the westbound lanes of Highway 46.
Officials say a male from Irvine was driving a 2019 Mercedes on Highway 46 at the same time as the semitruck was approaching the highway.
Lopez allegedly failed to yield the right of way to the Mercedes driver, according to CHP. The driver of the Mercedes was unable to avoid the crash and collided with the semitruck.
The driver of the Mercedes was pronounced dead at the scene and Lopez was taken to Kern Medical with minor injuries.
Officals with the California Highway Patrol told 17 News Lopez appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested.
According to the inmate booking website, Lopez was arrested on suspicion of first degree murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving with a suspended or revoked license and other related charges.
