KYLE, Texas (KXAN) -- The Kyle Police Department has launched a new Real-Time Crime Center, and with it, a way for people and businesses in the community to be more involved in the public safety sector. According to the department, the Real-Time Crime Center initiative includes a voluntary camera registry that allows residents and businesses to register their security cameras to be accessible to the Kyle Police Department. Police said the center is powered by Fusus, which according to its website is a technology platform that combines public and private video and data sources into a single feed.  Police said that by registering, camera owners can "help reduce the need for door-to-door canvassing currently conducted by patrol officers and detectives." City of Kyle to get more surveillance cameras to help keep crime at bay The system lets police quickly identify potential video evidence and contact camera owners if their footage is needed, according to a release. All registrant information would remain confidential and would only be used for criminal investigations, police said. “Building a partnership between our residents and police is key to public safety,” said Police Chief Jeff Barnett. “We encourage all security camera owners to participate.”  Residents can also upgrade their systems to share live video feeds with police during emergencies, according to Kyle PD.  The platform also includes a multimedia tips option for reporting suspicious activity, police said.  Kyle residents can register their cameras or find more information, including frequently asked questions about the camera registry system online.
