MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) -- Fire officials said a fire broke out at a home in Silver Spring on Monday morning, leaving over $225,000 in damages and displacing five people.
In a post on X just before 8:45 a.m., Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) spokesperson Pete Piringer said crews were on the scene of a house fire in the 500 block of Burnt Mills Ave.
The fire was located in the basement of the two-story house, according to Piringer. However, crews quickly extinguished it.
The home's smoke alarm alerted the residents to the fire, and they were able to escape and call 911.
