Fire near Oakland Whole Foods damages exterior, residence

(BCN) -- Oakland Fire crews battled a blaze Sunday night on Harrison Street north of Lake Merritt that damaged a residential building and threatened a nearby grocery store, a spokesperson for the fire department said.
At 10:30 p.m., 30 firefighters responded to 2600 Harrison St., spokesperson Michael Hunt said. A fire had broken out in a pathway between Harrison Street and Vernon Terrace, which then reached an exterior wall at 2600 Harrison, a residential building.
The fire began threatening the Whole Foods market on Bay Place and other structures along Harrison between Bay Place and Vernon Terrace, but it was contained with some minor damage to an exterior wall of the Whole Foods, according to Hunt. The residential building on Harrison received moderate damage.

As of 10:45 p.m., the fire was under control. There were no injuries and the fire remains under investigation.
