Four cats, dog rescued from Westborough house fire

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. (WWLP) - Four cats and a dog have been rescued from a house fire in Westborough on Sunday.
According to the Westborough Fire Department, on Sunday at 12:54 a.m., fire crews were sent to 3 Fisher Street for a reported fire in a single-family house. When crews arrived, they found heavy fire coming from the house.

The residents were able to evacuate, but multiple animals were still inside the home. Firefighters were able to locate and rescue a dog and four cats to safety. No injuries were reported.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the fire started in the kitchen and dining room area and originated from a battery-operated appliance. The house has been deemed uninhabitable with $500,000 worth of damage. The Red Cross of Massachusetts is currently assisting the residents.

The majority of the fire was put out within 15 minutes and crews remained there for around two hours to make sure the fire was fully put out. The fire is being investigated by the Westborough Fire Department.
"I would like to commend our crews that made a quick entry into the house to save five animals," Chief Purcell said. "They were then able to get the fire under control in a short period of time. This was a great effort by Westborough Fire and our mutual aid partners.”
