Virginia sets new early voting record as Election Day nears
Nov 04, 2024
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Virginians set a record for early voting this weekend as Election Day inches closer.
According to the Virginia Public Access Project, 137,551 people cast early ballots in person on Saturday, Nov. 2, breaking the previous record of 126,905 set on Friday, Nov.1.
An additional 5,700 votes came from mail-in ballots, bringing Saturday’s total to 143,251 ballots.
Officials expect well over 2.3 million early votes as mail-in ballots continue pouring in.
But overall turnout is still down from 2020 when more than 2.8 million voters voted early in the commonwealth.
Polls open on Tuesday, Nov. 5, across the state from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you are in line by 7 p.m., you will be able to vote.
Make sure to check the Virginia Department of Elections website to see which polling locations are close to you.
