PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Superheroes, sci-fi, and celebrities took over Providence this weekend for the 12th annual Rhode Island Comic Con.
From Friday, November 1 through Sunday, November 3, cosplayers immersed themselves into their favorite games, movies and television shows.
“It’s going great, I love Providence!” said Dean Norris, the actor who played Hank Schrader on Breaking Bad.
Norris told ABC6 it was his first time in the city and looks forward to trying the restaurants on Federal Hill.
The annual convention spans across the Amica Pavilion, Convention Center and the Omni Hotel.
“Rick loves being at RICC (Rhode Island Convention Center) Rhode Island Comic Con!” said Ian Cardoni, the voice actor of Rick on Adult Swim show, Rick and Morty.
“I can say Rhode Island is the best comic con ever,” said Harry Belden, the voice actor of Morty on Rick and Morty.
The Omni Hotel Staff told ABC6, all 800 rooms were booked throughout the weekend, with reservations made months, or even a year in advance.
The Omni Hotel staff also said other hotels around the state were also at capacity, as people reserved their spot for the Ocean State’s pop culture hub.
Jason, a cosplayer from Boston told ABC6 he came to Rhode Island’s Comic Con, which he thinks had a better lineup of guests than Boston’s Comic Con this year.
“We get to meet up with people that share the same interests. You get to meet a lot of cool people whether that be individuals traveling around this convention, or certain celebrities,” he said.
Residents and tourists alike got to meet celebrities, fitting every niche.
Guests included Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd from Back to the Future, David Arquette and Skeet Ulrich from Scream, Matthew Lewis from Harry Potter and William Shatner from Star Trek.

“In our business, we don’t get to actually have one on ones. And at Comic Con, we get to shake hands and thank people for being fans,” said Steven Michael Quezada, who played Steven Gomez on Breaking Bad.
Raymond Cruz also added that he’s loving Providence, especially the coal-fired pizza. Cruz is best known for playing Tuco Salamanca on Breaking Bad.
Along with familiar faces. there were also some guests from behind the scenes of some of the most popular films and shows.
“I’ve been here for quite a while. I’ve come a number of times every year. We’re always working on another movie or film,” said Bill Diamond, Emmy-Award winning puppeteer, fabricator and producer.
Diamond is known for operating the Little Shop of Horrors road tours and most recently, designing and building the set for slasher film, Terrifier 3.
Fans also got a chance to reconnect with their inner child.
“I spent my entire career on Blue’s Clues imagining you, and now I get to meet you. That is kind of uniquely wonderful for me,” said Steve Burns, who played Steve on Blue’s Clues.
“We’re sort of at a place where we’re getting to relate to technology in different ways. I think that is a little scary sometimes, but there’s an enormous, wonderful potential of that. As long as it is about connection,” Burns added.
The line to meet Steve wrapped out of the Convention Center and into the hallway.
ABC6 spoke with Courtney Dalessio after she got to meet him face to face.
“It’s nice to see him as an actual person who went through things too. Now he’s back and better than ever,” Dalessio said.
Some of the most notable names in Hollywood said Comic Con means a lot to them, too.
“It’s really the nicest compliment,” said Mara Wilson, the actress that rose to fame as Matilda and Natalie Hillard in Mrs. Doubtfire.
“There’s nothing nicer than hearing people give you compliments and hugs all day,” said Wilson.
The event may be over, but fans say the memories will last a lifetime.
