Nov 04, 2024
NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — A heavy police presence was seen Monday morning outside Quidnessett Elementary School in North Kingstown.
Police said a fifth grader "mentioned having an explosive device in his bag," prompting the bus to be evacuated and the bomb squad to respond.
Nothing was found and the incident ended quickly, according to police.
The student will be charged with falsely reporting the placing of a bomb, police said.
"Our responsibility is to continue to maintain a safe school environment and provide appropriate support to the student who made the threat, as well as any supportive responses to all other students," Superintendent Kenneth Duva said in a letter to parents. "The safety of students and staff is, and always will be, our top priority."
There is no threat to the community at this time.
