LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 News Now) — As Election Day approaches, voters in Fayette County are urged to brace for long lines at the polls, possibly surpassing those seen in early voting. Fayette County Clerk Susan Lamb talked with ABC 36, noting the high turnout during early voting. “If you have to wait an hour today [first day of early voting] to vote, I bet you will have to wait a lot longer than that on Election Day,” Lamb said. The Fayette County Clerk’s Office will be closed Monday for absentee ballot processing and final preparations. Officials encourage voters to review ballot items before arriving, which include two constitutional amendments and a Fayette County parks funding referendum. “Know before you go, because there’s 2 constitutional amendments, and then in Fayette County, there’s a park funding referendum,” Lamb said. She added, “I strongly, strongly urge you to take the time to do that, we will have copies of those at the polling places for you to look at, but educate yourself before you go.” Lamb explained that vote counting will also have a different process this year. “So what we realized, is that we’re going to forego the early results about the absentee, and as soon as the V drives start coming into our office, we’re going to start scanning them in. So it’s going to kind of go back and look like the old days where you’ll see the percentage reporting,” said Lamb. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Voters are reminded to bring identification, and those in line by 6 p.m. will still be allowed to vote. Click here to look up your precinct polling location.
