KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Police Department released an update Monday morning regarding the condition of an officer who was hit by a car while driving a motorcycle almost three weeks ago.
According to police, the traffic officer was critically injured in an early morning crash on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at the intersection of Gregory Boulevard and Troost Avenue.
The officer had been driving northbound on a motorcycle when an SUV driving in the opposite direction turned in front of the bike, causing the crash.

Immediately after the crash, the officer was helped by nearby civilians who used his radio to call for help. Shortly after emergency responders arrived, he was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. By about 2 p.m. that same day, the officer's condition was updated to "stable."
Since these initial statements, there have been very few updates about the officer. But on Monday morning, almost three weeks later, KCPD announced that the officer had been released from the hospital and was going to an out-of-state hospital for rehab.
In a sendoff Monday, many of the officer's co-workers and fellow traffic officers escorted him and his family to the downtown airport, wishing him luck and well-wishes.
KCPD said, "Please join us in wishing our officer strength, resilience, and a full recovery."
