(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — A busy week of weather is in our forecast, starting with a storm system moving through on Sunday (11/3) night. A rain snow mix is already pushing through the area as of early Sunday evening. The National Weather Service has multiple hazards and alerts active across the region. Winter weather advisories are in place for portions of the the Pikes Peak region, the San Juans, and areas around Las Animas County. In general, the timing of these hazards will be active from Sunday evening through Monday (11/4) afternoon. Timing of the storm system is highlighting a rain / snow mix first, depending on your elevation. We may also see some flashes of lightning as the activity picks up around Pueblo. More snow will then begin to filter in well after midnight on into Monday morning. Some areas will still be seeing rain at this time as the air won't be quite cold enough at the lowest of elevations to bring snow. The majority of activity, for the Pikes Peak region will begin to wrap up by late Monday morning. The Arkansas River Valley and south will continue to see activity for the second half of the day. Newest models are pushing snow a bit further into portions of the Eastern Plains. As far as snow totals go, this is what the FOX21 Storm Team is thinking. This system will largely be an elevation driven snow event, meaning higher elevations will see a bit more snow this time around. The one exception may be the far southeast side of the viewing area where convective snow could take over and bring locally higher amounts. Winds will be quite breezy early Monday morning. This could lead to some heavy blowing snow and reduced visibility so be sure to take it easy on your drive into work. Winds may gust 25 to 30 mph. Temperatures tonight will be in the 20s, 30s, and 40s depending on your elevation. Much cooler temperatures are expected for the higher terrain. Highs on Monday are looking chilly too. The Colorado Springs are will be lucky to get out of the 30s! Warmer weather is on the way Tuesday, but it is short lived as a more potent winter storm takes aim at Southern Colorado.
