HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - People in Holyoke came together for the third annual 'Leaders Versus Future Leaders' basketball game.
More than 25 children and 25 local leaders like the Holyoke mayor and the Holyoke Schools superintendent gathered to play a fun game of basketball at the YMCA.
The event originally started with a dozen children and has grown every year. It also serves as a mentorship program for those in the community.
"The reason we do this event is to set up our teens and our youth to prepare them to be the leaders of this city we have a lot of leaders here who were in their position the mayor was a kid of Holyoke," says Gabriel Maldonado, School Age Director for the Greater Holyoke YMCA.
Later this year, the Greater Holyoke YMCA plans to host a farmers market, a trip to Newport, Rhode Island for senior citizens, and a gingerbread house competition.
