BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Central finally snapped its six-game losing streak to Zachary on Friday, winning 14-3.
Coming into the game, Zachary was averaging over 30 points per game, but the Wildcats' defense held them to only three. The heavy rain might have played a factor in why there were only 17 points scored between two high-powered offenses.
Entering halftime, the Wildcats took a 7-0 lead. It seemed that the Broncos were going to even the score after a big run by Da'veiko Ruffin set Zachary up in the red zone. Zachary settled for a field goal to cut the lead to 7-3. Following the drive for the Wildcats', Zakarri Hogan picked off the ball, giving Zachary the ball deep in Central territory. On the same drive, Zachary converted a 4th and 20, putting them at Central's two-yard line.
The Broncos were about to take the lead, but a fumble gave Central the ball back, keeping the score 7-3. The Wildcats cashed in on the turnover with a 77-yard touchdown pass to Keithon Womack from Jackson Firmin. From there, Central's defense suffocated Zachary's offense, not letting them find the endzone once.
