The Miners football squad continued their winning ways to open the playoffs Friday night, blanking second round opponent Bear River 33-0 at Dozier Field. Park City jumped on the Bears early, scoring two first quarter touchdowns. The Miners added 17 points in the second quarter and a safety in the fourth. Park City senior quarterback Bash Bodily scored on three rushing touchdowns in the first half, one from 63 yards out. Miners running back Eli Warner had a second quarter rushing touchdown, and kicker Tanner Pidwell remained perfect, making a 25 yard field goal in the second quarter and four extra points in the first half. The game was the fourth shutout this season for the Park City defense, which is only allowing 10.9 points a game. Teams should continue to struggle to move the ball on the Miners as the weather worsens in November. The 4A playoffs run through Nov. 21, with the championship game being held then at Utah’s Rice-Eccles Stadium. Park City is seeking their first state title in program history, falling in the state semifinals last fall. The Miners will next take on fourth-seeded Spanish Fork next Friday on the road. Spanish Fork defeated Salem Hills 56-35 Friday at home. The 9-2 Dons lie over an hour away from Park City. With a win, the Miners would advance back to the semifinals Nov. 14 at Rice-Eccles. The winner of top-seeded Ridgeline and regional foe Stansbury potentially await Park City in the semifinals.
