PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Starting Friday night, two lanes of I-95 North after the Route 10 interchange will be closed while crews work to replace the Elmwood Avenue Bridge. The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) said the closures will be in place from 8 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday this coming weekend (Nov. 1–4) and next weekend (Nov. 8–11). RELATED: RI announces plans to fix 11 bridges, eliminate 4 more A lane split will be in place on I-95 North at the bridge during the closure and through the week. Drivers should not suddenly change lanes or stop. All lanes go through, according to RIDOT. Elmwood Avenue at the 1-95 overpass will also be closed. Detour signs will be in place to help direct drivers. RIDOT "strongly suggests" drivers use alternate routes like Route 10 and I-295 during the next two weekends. Crews will be demolishing and replacing different portions of the bridge. The timeline of the project is subject to change depending on need and weather.
