Get Hawaii's latest morning news delivered to your inbox, sign up for News 2 You The Hawaii Holiday Craft & Gift Fair, the first holiday fair of the season, is the perfect way to entertain them and the ohana. From toys to food, here at Dis-and-Bark, which is one of over 250 booths at the craft fair that are filling up the exhibition hall at the Neal Blaisdell Center. To find out more, KHON2's Kamaka Pili met with the owner of Dis-and-Bark, Leah Lukela. Kamaka: You have some very interesting products all for dogs and all for pets. Tell us what your company is all about. "We are all about bringing local culture to your pet and blending the lines between being a parent and a paw-rent," says Lukela. Oahu cat killings: Not just a danger to animals "Yes, so a lot of our stuff is food related because food is a huge part of every culture, so we have everything from sweet bread to donuts. You name it, we got it," says Lukela. Kamaka: How do you come up with these ideas and what is your role putting all of this together? "So, I am the designer of all of these toys, they're my drawings and its all food that I like to eat. Its my culture, I am from Waianae so we got to hold it down," says Lukela. Kamaka: How long have you been doing this so far? "This year made three years so we have been doing this event for three years now. This is kind of our home event," says Lukela. Kamaka: And how has sales been, how has it been over the past three years? "Its been amazing. You know, coming out of COVID, we really had the support of all the local communities here and the amazing host of this event. This is family," says Lukela. Kamaka: What are the most popular products that you have? Possible override of mayor’s veto to lift fireworks ban "Definitely right now, our lifted truck," says Lukela. "You know everybody wants a truck for Christmas and so does your dog. And you know, rice is a staple in the household so we have the two scoop rice with the rice paddle. We are really trying to hit home for your dog." Kamaka: Well, I also see a bag of poi behind you as well, we cannot forget that one. "We do. So, we have our poi bag which was one of the first toys we ever made and in the back, we want to give interactive moments so we have a little kalo that comes out. Yes, we're in it bringing culture," says Lukela. Kamaka: What was the idea to create this company in the first palce? "I really wanted to do something for animals and I wanted to do something that highlights on the fun part of being a parent," says Lukela. "You know, I'm not the doctor, I'm not the vet. I'm going to bring the treats. Its Dog-sneyland." Dis-and-Bark is just one booth out of over 250 that have filled up the exhibition hall.
