2024 remains Rochester's warmest year on record
Nov 01, 2024
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Given our warm Halloween, it likely comes as no surprise Rochester's month of October yet again finished above "normal" in terms of average temperature. We finished 1.6° above average.
While that singular statistic isn't particularly impressive, the cumulative effect of this pattern in 2024 has been quite remarkable. Every single month of 2024 has come in above average in Rochester. That's 10/10 with only November and December remaining. Given this prolonged warm stretch, 2024 continues to lead the way as Rochester's warmest year on record dating back to the late 1800s.
Through October 31st, Rochester's top 5 warmest years are as follows:
2024 (55.4°)
1921 (55.1°)
2012 (54.7°)
2017 (54.0°)
2016 (53.8°)
Early indications continue to suggest the overall pattern will favor a lean toward milder-than-average temperatures for the remainder of 2024. In fact, the CPC just put out their latest temperature outlook for the month of November. The map should surprise no one.
Time will tell if 2024 can retain the top spot by the time January 1st rolls around. While I'm not a betting man, I'd be putting my chips on "yes".
