MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A dog was rescued from a freeway in Madera County after drivers reported it running across traffic on Thursday, the California Highway Patrol said. CHP says Officer J. Carabajal and Officer C. Calkin responded to the area of northbound Highway 99, south of Avenue 9, for reports of dogs running in the traffic lanes. Upon arrival, officers found a dog and were able to contain it and keep it from running back into traffic. CHP says service calls just like these are not uncommon. They remind drivers to remain vigilant and focus on the task at hand when driving a motor vehicle, as well as to always look ahead to detect any hazards. Anyone who recognizes the dog pictured above is encouraged to contact the Madera Animal Shelter at 559-675-7891.
