TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - An abandoned metal drum was found on the banks of a canal near Orosi late Thursday night with a "petroleum-based product" inside, the Tulare County Fire Department said. According to the fire department, crews responded to the canal bank at Road 128 and Avenue 440 near Orosi. They found a 55-gallon drum with an "unknown liquid" inside and requested Visalia Fire Department's Hazmat team to respond. Officials later determined that the liquid inside was a "petroleum-based product." According to the State of California, petroleum products (made from crude oil, coal and natural gas) can cause health issues. The incident was turned over to Tulare County Environmental Health.
