Nov 01, 2024
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) -- The Albuquerque city clerk said his staff is making progress on the IPRA backlog. The clerk said his office has seen a sharp increase in requests for public records with more than 1600 back in April.
At the end of September, that number fell to around 1100. The clerk's office said a request left unopened for more than 30 days is considered "backlogged."

The average turnaround right now for complex requests is around 40 days.
To address the issue, the clerk said the office has added staff and reached out to requesters to better prioritize their requests. They have looked at process improvements and digitizing paper records.
