Parkite Nick Page making final preparations for World Cup season
Nov 01, 2024
Parkite mogulist Nick Page just returned to town after spending a few weeks earlier this month in Chile for training camps. Page and the rest of the U.S. moguls team got on the full-length moguls course there and practiced working on the technical improvements they made this offseason. The moguls team has around a month until the first World Cup event of the season kicks off in Ruka, Finland, which is part of a 10-event season schedule, including the Cup Finals in Livigno, Italy, in March. The team is now back stateside, with Page working to build his strength and endurance at the Center of Excellence in town. The 22 year old said he is enjoying his time in the gym and counting down the days until he’s back on snow. The U.S. team will head over to Finland for a final training camp Nov. 12. He said he feels like he’s right where he wants to be with his preparations. Page finished last Cup season ranked fifth in the world, a ranking he’ll look to build upon. It will be his sixth season on the circuit. “I’m happy with where my training has been, where my physical condition is,” said Page. “Feel stronger, quicker and more capable than I have in the past. It’s been nice to keep making these steps and breakthroughs, even though this training can feel really monotonous.”Page is encouraged that he could break into the top echelon of the sport. 2024 year-end world No. 1 Mikael Kingsbury has been atop the sport for over a decade. Page is ready for the Ruka Cup, which will be held in darkness due to the limited daylight there. The U.S. team will practice at the site for over a week leading up to the competition. After Ruka, Page and the team will travel to three more Cups in consecutive weeks. Last season, Page podiumed at two of those first four Cups in Sweden and Georgia. “The success in December really is a tribute to all the work in the offseason,” said Page. “It’s a sprint with no finish line. Every day you have to wake up ready to go tackle everything and put 100% of your effort in.”Page described the U.S. team as a tight-knit bunch, along with the rest of the moguls tour. He said they spend a ton of time together and try to make the most of their time off the snow. Page said he feels privileged to be able to travel the world so young with his friends. He laughed when describing how his passport was already full by 19 years old. Page said the first four Cups are some of his favorites on the schedule. He’s podiumed the Idre Fjäll, Sweden, Cup four times and loves the people there. Page will also have his parents coming out to the Alpe d’Huez, France, Cup Dec. 13-14. When at each event he likes to get out, try the local cuisines and make the most of the trips. Nick Page runs an outdoor stair workout on July 29 as part of his offseason training. He acknowledged that it’s now time to put away his golf clubs for the year. The U.S. team will return stateside from the four Cup run around the holidays, with about a month-long break in their schedule. “It’s officially here,” said Page. “Season’s starting, which is always a fun time of year. It brings a lot of excitement. We’ll definitely be spending a lot of time up at Deer Valley training between Christmas and the middle of January, when we have that break in our schedule. I’ll definitely be up there trying to maximize all the time I can on snow, getting things polished out before we go back onto the World Cup circuit.”The Cup season, results and standings can be tracked on the FIS website. The Cups can be live-streamed and watched on-demand at Ski and Snowboard Live. Page said Tess Johnson of the U.S. women’s team, who finished last season ranked seventh in the world, would be a skier to watch this year due to the hard yards she’s been putting in this offseason.
