RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Richmond Fire Department responded to a brush fire at Belle Isle where wood logs on the James River caught fire on Thursday afternoon. In the afternoon on Thursday, Oct. 31, Richmond Fire crews responded to a reported brush fire at Belle Isle. In photos shared with 8News, Richmond Fire crews can be seen spraying water on a pile of smokey tree logs jammed between rocks in the James River at Belle Isle. Officials said the fire department believes someone may have lit a campfire on the rocks nearby which caused the logs to catch fire. According to officials, crews responded to the area again in the morning of Friday, Nov. 1 to check on the logs and they expect the rain to wash it out later on Friday. As the logs are secluded on the water, officials said the fire does not pose any threat.
