Nov 01, 2024
After a warm, windy, wet finish to Halloween and the month of October with showers dampening trick or treating for some of the ghosts and goblins around the area, we kicked off November on a more fall-like note Friday. The frontal system responsible for the first widespread measurable rain in weeks slowly moved out of the commonwealth taking the unseasonably warm air of late with it. After some morning clouds and a few showers down south, drier air filtered in from the northwest bringing a return of some sunshine with afternoon highs leveling out in the mid-60s, which is right around average for the beginning of the month. We are set-up for a nice weekend overall as high pressure builds into the Ohio Valley and moves eastward. After a cool start Saturday morning, it should be a pleasant afternoon with highs crawling back into the upper 60s with abundant sunshine around. With plenty of fall festivals on-going and the fall foliage reaching peak color for the season, make some plans to spend some time outdoors and enjoy the delightful weather. Don’t forget about time change on Saturday night as Daylight Saving time ends at 2am Sunday morning. Clocks go back 1 hour so you get an extra hour of sleep but remember sunset on Sunday will be around 5:35 pm Eastern so it gets darker earlier. Another storm system will be building in the Central Plains for the second half of the weekend with much of the energy remaining off to our northwest. A warm front will slide through the Ohio Valley and while most locations will be dry, a low-end shower chance is possible across Western Kentucky. One thing this front will do is bring yet another shot of unseasonably warm air back to the commonwealth as afternoon highs run back into the mid to upper 70s so expect quite a warm finish to the weekend, especially by early November standards. Heading toward Election Day early next week the unusually warm air will remain in place  as a strong southwest flow remains in place with high pressure to our east. It looks like we’ll make a legitimate run at record high temperatures both Monday and Election Day. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 70s with mainly dry conditions so it should be a great day to get out and vote! By late on Election Day the front should get close enough for a few scattered showers and thunderstorms to move in with a better chance on tap for Wednesday. The front should slide through with cooler temperatures expected later next week as highs drop back into the 60s. ABC 36 HOUR FORECAST FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear and chilly. Lows in the upper-30s to low-40s. SATURDAY: Mostly sunny and pleasant. Highs in the upper-60s. SATURDAY NIGHT: A few clouds, steady and rising temperatures. Lows in the mid-40s.
