GREENFIELD, Ind. — A Greenfield babysitter was sentenced to three years on house arrest and two and a half years on probation on Thursday for neglecting and abusing multiple children. According to Indiana's public court reporting system, 31-year-old Meleiah Fisher initially faced 10 charges. As part of a plea deal, Fisher will only be penalized for five of those charges. For two counts of neglect of a dependent, Fisher was sentenced to 1,095 days at Community Corrections, or house arrest. The court also awarded her two jail credit days. Fisher received three years of probation for the other three counts she faced — one year of probation per charge. Fisher reportedly claimed that the injuries were simply caused by accidents, or the children playing rough. However, when detectives talked to the kids, they provided a different story. One child even stated her discipline meant being "punched, slapped if you spill something or make a mess,” court documents indicated. According to investigators, only a handful of children were able to provide testimony, as many of the accusations against Fisher involved children who could not yet speak at the time of their abuse.
