INDIANAPOLIS — The Department of Natural Resources will begin restocking channel catfish in water bodies across Indiana this month. According to a press release, the Indiana DNR will distribute 51,000 catfish across 157 locations in the state this fall. The restocking is part of the DNR's effort to expand fishing opportunities in Indiana's publicly accessible waters. The catfish were raised by state biologists at fish hatcheries in Morgan, Jackson and Daviess Counties. The DNR confirmed all locations receiving catfish should be stocked by early November. The catfish being stocked in Indiana's waters will range from 8-10 inches in size. Photo courtesy of the Indiana DNR. With restocking ramping up, the DNR is reminding anglers to follow bag and size restrictions. Per the DNR, anglers may not take more than 10 channel catfish per day at most state lakes and reservoirs. Those fishing may only bag one catfish measuring longer than 28 inches per day. Some lakes in the Hoosier State have different rules. The DNR has a breakdown of fishing regulations for the state's public waters here. Additional resources on fishing and catfishing, specifically, are available here and here.
