Families were encouraged to bring a photo of their loved ones to place on the Ofrenda, an altar for memories and offerings for the departed souls. "Death is very taboo in our culture, and then when you have something like this happen, alongside that death, then it makes it even harder for our community to talk about," said Crystina Page, Chairperson of Colorado Remembers. "Which means that a lot of the people who are impacted by it don't have that support from the community that they need. So this is a way for us to come out and celebrate our loved ones and honor them, honor their lives, and also feel close to them today." The family event was free but was accepting donations alongside a silent auction and raffle.
