Justice Department to monitor voter compliance in South Carolina on election day
Nov 01, 2024
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCBD) – The US Justice Department will monitor polls in 27 states, including South Carolina, for the Nov. 5 general election, the agency said Friday.
The department will monitor polls in 86 jurisdictions, including Charleston County, to ensure compliance with federal voting rights law coordinated by the DOJ's Civil Rights Division.
Poll workers are expected to maintain contact with state and local election officials throughout the day on Nov. 5.
"Complaints related to any disruptions at a polling place should always be reported to local election officials (including officials based in the polling place). Complaints related to violence, threats of violence, or intimidation at a polling place should be reported immediately to local police authorities by calling 911," the department explained. "These complaints should also be reported to the department after local authorities have been contacted."
