MPD arrests man for stealing dog ‘Pepper’ from boat in Navy Yard, police say

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said a man was arrested on Thursday for stealing puppy "Pepper" from a boat in Navy Yard.
On Oct. 11, police were called to the 100 block of Potomac Avenue for the report of a theft.
Officers discovered that a boat had been broken into and a 3-month-old black Cane Corso named “Pepper” was stolen.
Soon after, MPD released pictures of the dog and on Oct.19 a “good Samaritan” returned Pepper to his owner in good condition.

The person said they had bought the dog from an online ad before discovering that Pepper had been stolen.
On October 31, police arrested and charged 18-year-old Dante Eley of Southeast D.C. with Theft in The Second Degree and Destruction of Property.
