Plus, a Commanders-themed doughnut, Hello Kitty and Godzilla birthday parties, and a new pizza spot in Virginia. Chinese-Korean counter Chiko first opened in Barracks Row in 2017, marking the first of several successful restaurants (Anju, I Egg You) from chefs Scott Drewno and Danny Lee’s The Fried Rice Collective. Now, with five fast-casual Chikos in D.C., Virginia, Maryland, and California (what Drewno calls their “snow bird” spot), its first full-service outpost is ready to roll. The 3,000-square-foot space in Sterling, opening in mid-November, features a full bar and patio (46308 Cranston Street, Potomac Falls, Virginia).

Sterling’s location will be the first to offer all of its fried rice dishes.
For Lee, it’s a bit of a homecoming. With plenty of friends and family in Loudoun County, he watched the county develop while growing up in nearby Vienna. “Loudoun County is one of the most rapidly increasing counties in the country in terms of population, and it’s also incredibly diverse,” Lee told Eater. He recently spoke at the graduation for nearby Independence High School, and was impressed by their mantra of “diversity and community and belonging,” a huge departure from what he remembers in the area as a kid. The new space will combine all of its location-specific menus, plus offer fun new menu items. “We’re also opening for lunch from the get go, which is the first time we’ve done that as well,” Lee says. The latest store will also continue to maintain the positive working environment the brand is known for. “We’ve tried to build a company that, has opportunities for all our team members to have insurance and a 401k and a fun place to work,” Drewno says.
