SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The fire that burned 40 acres in the area of Fairmount Avenue and Montezuma Road near the San Diego State University campus Thursday afternoon is about 25% contained. Residents who were under mandatory evacuation orders due to the extent of the fire were allowed to go home around 9 p.m. Thursday night. However, as of Friday morning, authorities said Montezuma Road between Collwood Boulevard and Fairmount Avenue remains closed. The eastbound Interstate 8 off-ramp to southbound Fairmount Avenue, which was closed off during the fire response, reopened to traffic around 7 p.m. Thursday, according to Caltrans.
