BOSTON (WWLP) - A group of homeowners dealing with crumbling concrete have asked Governor Maura Healey to create a special commission that would help them pay to fix their foundations. Last legislative session, lawmakers in the State Senate passed an amendment added to the Affordable Homes Act that would have started the process. But, it was removed from the bill right before it was passed by Governor Maura Healey. "We did get an explanation a little bit of just time ran out," said State Senator Ryan Fattman. "That's unacceptable. Time is running out of these people's homes." They are now asking the governor to use her executive powers to create a special commission on crumbling concrete that would figure out the best solution to this issue and how to pay for foundation repairs - something that costs hundreds of thousands of dollars and is not covered by insurance. "Out of all our owners, we have a good percentage that are retired and they are fixed income," said Scott Derosa, who lives in a condo complex in Dracut that has crumbling concrete. "Dracut is not one of those rich towns. We are a working-man town. We need some assistance so we can handle it somehow." A spokesperson for Gov. Healey, Karissa Hand, told 22News "The Healey-Driscoll Administration recognizes the importance of providing support to homeowners whose concrete foundations are crumbling. We will continue to work together with our partners in the Legislature to evaluate potential solutions that would provide relief to homeowners." People dealing with this issue say her support is not enough. They want to see action. "Massachusetts needs one now, not years down the road," said Karen Riani whose Holden home had crumbling concrete. "We're asking today Governor Healey please help us - not years from now. Now we need the help." "As time goes on, this crisis is growing," said Michelle Loglisci, who founded the group Massachusetts Residents Against Crumbling Foundations. "As one homeowner has said 'it's coming to a town near you!' The homeowners are urging the Governor to create this commission quickly so any legislation written can get in front of lawmakers during the next legislative session. Local News Headlines Gov.
