BOSTON (WWLP) - State lawmakers are looking for internal fixes for the Cannabis Control Commission. Servers say wage plan won’t solve industry problems The Cannabis Control Commission, or CCC, is the state's controversial marijuana regulatory body and was the subject of a hearing on Wednesday. 22News spoke to Payton Shubrick, who is the owner and operator of 6 Bricks in Springfield. At the hearing, she told lawmakers that her business is being negatively affected by the lack of swift reaction from the CCC and the extreme oversupply of cannabis which sells for prices that make it impossible for local businesses like hers to make a reasonable profit. Shubrick says the industry originally promised equity programs to certain groups, but they aren't coming to fruition. "With people who are choosing to leave the industry and shut their doors, it's disproportionately women, people of color, and veterans," said Shubrick. The 6 Bricks owner has some tips for western Massachusetts consumers looking to support local cannabis businesses. "What I would encourage customers to think through is to better understand who you are shopping with. Are you supporting a Massachusetts-born and bred brand?" said Shubrick. "As we saw from the pandemic, the notion of buying local shops still has a place in our economy." Shubrick says that in the future, she'd like to see the CCC operate similarly to the Alcohol Business Commission, which she says has better consistency in standards and expectations. Lawmakers say there is potential for the CCC to be moved to a new home within the state government's organizational structure in the future. Local News Headlines Gov.
